Trooper Amanda Reif was shot through a doorway while responding to a domestic disturbance call. Her Armor saved her life. The convicted rapist who was in hiding inside the house opened fire with a .50 Cal black powder rifle. Trooper Reif was struck in the chest/shoulder area. She took a defensive position waiting for back up and as they arrived the assailant, now armed with a shotgun, moved towards them. The severely wounded Trooper Reif took one shot from a prone shooting position killing her attacker and saving the lives of the responding officers and the initial victim of the domestic disturbance. Trooper Reif was awarded the Trooper of the year by the IACP. She did sustain nerve damage, broken ribs, a fracture of the shoulder blade and a collapsed lung from the incident and has undergone more than a year of physical therapy.
