During a traffic stop the driver became combative and a fight ensued. The suspect produced a 357 magnum and shot Cpl. Penney in the lower stomach area. His 7 year old ABA XHP stopped the round and Cpl. Penney was able to return fire and incapacitate his assailant. The suspect is charged with attempted murder and Cpl. Penney is returning to full duty.
