On July 25, 2017, officers from the Richmond Police Department responded
to a call regarding a man threatening the public with an ax and a knife. As
the officers attempted to deescalate the situation, the assailant charged at
them and the officers opened fire.
One of the .357 SIG rounds struck Officer John Rotondi in the lower abdomen
area and his ABA® XT03 level II armor stopped the bullet. He was treated and
has since been released.
