On March 3, 2018, the Gulfport Police Department SWAT Team was deployed
to a call with a barricaded suspect reported to be holding a hostage. The
suspect was wanted on aggravated assault charges from a prior shooting.
After a tense five-hour standoff, the team attempted to deploy gas
underneath a bathroom door. As they made entry behind a PROTECHÒ
Tactical Body Bunker
Ò shield, the suspect opened fire through the door and
the Body Bunker shield stopped the .45 ACP round which impacted the
shield’s viewport.
All seven SWAT Team members were protected by the shield, allowing them
to return fire and end the threat.
