On January 13, 2019 officers from the Duluth Police Department responded to a report of a violent domestic disturbance where the suspect was barricaded inside a home. After an hour of negotiations, the suspect opened fire striking and wounding K-9 Handler Officer Aaron Haller, and mortally wounding his 3-year old K-9 partner, Haas.
Officer Haller’s Safariland® Summit™ SM01 IIIA armor stopped the 9mm round and he was treated and released from the hospital. The Duluth PD incident report noted that K9 Haas’s actions likely saved the lives of other officers, and at the very least kept more officers from getting shot.
The suspect was found deceased inside the residence from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
We welcome Officer Aaron Haller, SAVE #2056 to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
