On December 10, 2019, Corporal Adam Kirk of the Pennsylvania State Police, along with two troopers, were performing a welfare check on an individual who hadn’t been heard from since November 27. Corporal Kirk and the troopers made entry and announced, “State Police”. As they searched the residence, Corporal Kirk came to a doorway covered by a blanket. As he began to pull the blanket back, an assailant shot through it with a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with birdshot. With impact less than five feet away, the shot and wad were stopped by his PROTECH® IMPAC ST armor plate and Safariland® Summit™ SM01.1 Level II armor vest.
Corporal Kirk and the troopers were able to move to cover and a barricaded suspect situation continued for the next 14 hours where the individual continued to fire at troopers and officers. The assailant refused to surrender and was fatally wounded by S.E.R.T.
Corporal Kirk was flown to the hospital where he was treated for the shotgun hit to his chest. He is recovering and hopes to return to full duty soon.
We welcome Corporal Adam Kirk, SAVE #2070, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
