On June 27, 2020, Deputy Timothy Tutor stopped to do a motorist welfare check. As Deputy Tutor approached the vehicle, the driver opened fire with a 9mm semi-automatic handgun. The deputy was hit in the upper right chest, but was able to stay in the fight and return fire. The assailant drove a short distance then stopped, and it was determined by officers that he was deceased.
Deputy Tutor was transported by Lifestar helicopter to the trauma center in Knoxville where it was determined that his GH Armor Level II GPA II-2 GH armor had stopped the 9mm full metal jacket round. He was treated and released.
