On April 21, 2020, Officer Anthony Pyzik was on patrol when his department vehicle was struck head-on by a suspect operating a stolen vehicle. The collision was so severe, the passenger compartment collapsed in on Officer Pyzik causing serious bodily injury. Doctors credit his Safariland® Summit® SM02 Level IIIA armor with protecting his torso. Despite the severity of the crash, Oficer Pyzik sustained no injuries to his chest or internal organs. He has required multiple surgeries for the injuries he sustained in areas not protected by his armor and is hopeful to return to full duty sometime in 2021.
