On December 16, 2021, Trooper Spencer Morris was in his patrol vehicle when a fleeing fugitive opened fire with a 7.62X39 AK-47 style, semi-automatic pistol. One of the rounds penetrated the patrol car’s door and corner of the computer docking station and hit Trooper Morris in the chest. His Safariland SX02 level II armor stopped the round and Trooper Morris was able to stay in the fight, return fire, and end the threat. Trooper Morris was treated and released the same day and has returned to full duty.
Trooper Morris was recognized by the International Association of Chiefs of Police as Trooper of the Year for his actions.
We welcome Trooper Spencer Morris, SAVE #2147, to The Safariland Group SAVES Club
