On June 21, 2022, Deputy Izak Ackerman was conducting a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to stop and a pursuit was initiated. At the end of the vehicular pursuit, the suspect then fled on foot. Deputy Ackerman caught up to the suspect and a struggle ensued. The suspect pulled a 9mm handgun and shot Deputy Ackerman in the chest and face. Deputy Ackerman was able to stay in the fight, return fire, and end the threat. Deputy Ackerman’s GH Armor Helix II Level II armor stopped the round to his chest.
Deputy Ackerman underwent surgery for the gunshot injury to his face and has returned to
full duty.
