On December 23, 2022, Deputy Arin Bowers responded to a call of a man walking near a highway with a small child. As deputy Bowers approached the man to speak with him, the man first began to walk away, then turned and opened fire with a .9mm handgun. Deputy Bowers was struck in the chest but was able to return fire. The child was unharmed, and Deputy Bowers’ Safariland SX02 Level IIIA armor stopped the .9mm round.
The assailant was transported to the hospital and is facing multiple felony charges.
