On November 1, 2023, Deputy Joel Hoover made a traffic stop pursuant to a narcotics investigation. As he approached the vehicle, the driver opened fire with a 9mm. The assailant fired 15 rounds through the back window of his car. Deputy Hoover was hit multiple times including once in the left hand, once in the right upper chest and once in his Safariland® Holster. Deputy Hoover was able to stay in the fight, return fire and end the assailant. 12 kilos of cocaine were recovered from the assailant’s vehicle. Deputy Hoover’s. Safariland® SX™ Level IIIA armor stopped the round to his chest, and he has returned to full duty.
