New from Charter Arms: The Double Dog 9mm/.357

— James MaybrickCADRE Dispatch

Charter Arms of Shelton, Connecticut has been in the business of no-nonsense personal defense revolvers since 1964. Their lineup includes popular favorites like the .44 Special Bulldog and the Undercover .38, as well as newer offerings like the semi-auto caliber Pitbull.

New for 2024 is the Charter Arms Double Dog line, a take on the .357 Magnum Mag Pug revolver with an interchangeable 9mm Luger cylinder.

The Charter Arms Double Dog lineup is a series of small-frame double-action revolvers based on the stainless-steel Mag Pug .357, which itself is the firm’s venerable J-frame sized .44 caliber Bulldog frame but chambered in the more powerful and available .357 Magnum cartridge.

Choose from either a 2.2-inch snubnose version with fixed sights or an adjustable sighted 4.2-inch barreled version in either a black passivate or a matte stainless finish.

Features and Versatility

The Double Dog holds five rounds of .357 Magnum or .38 Special ammunition and comes with an interchangeable 9mm Luger cylinder and yoke assembly, which allows the shooter to use cheaper 9mm ammunition or pair a sturdy revolver in the same caliber as a larger autoloading pistol.

The caliber swap is as easy as unfastening the yoke set screw and rolling out the cylinder with the cylinder release. The 9mm Luger cylinder is the same as seen on the Pitbull series. It features a spring-tensioned ejector rod that holds the rimless 9mm cases in the cylinder for easy loading and extraction without the use of moon clips.

To round out the package, the Double Dog line comes from the factory with diamond cut porting to dampen recoil and mitigate muzzle rise for fast follow-up shots, whether you are poking targets with Magnum rounds or plinking around with 9mm ammunition.

The Mag Pug snubby convertible wears classic wrap-around walnut grips, while the target model uses contoured professional backpacker walnut boot grips. These new revolvers from Charter Arms are the most adaptable of their lineup yet and have an MSRP starting at $637.
