On October 27, 2022 Officer Mollee Heeney of the Alamosa Police Department responded to a disturbance call. As she arrived, she observed the assailant shoot a man multiple times. She exited her patrol vehicle and the assailant shot her twice. She was hit in the leg and the round fractured her left femur. She was also hit in the back of her left shoulder. Her Safariland® Hardwire® Level II panel stopped the round to her back. Officer Heeney was able to return fire, and the suspect was taken into custody and faces multiple felony charges.
