Officer Zachary Pittman

Fayetteville Police Department - North Carolina Saves Club

On the evening of August 12, 2012, Officer Zachary Pittman was in a foot pursuit of a suspect wanted for a carjacking. As Officer Pittman caught up to and attempted to take the suspect into custody, a fight ensued. During the fight, the suspect attempted to gain control of Officer Pittman’s firearm while it was in his Safariland® Level III 6360 holster. After an intense and prolonged fight over the firearm, the weapon discharged. The fight for the firearm continued with the weapon now out of the holster. The suspect was able to turn the weapon and point it at Officer Pittman’s face and pull the trigger. Due to the earlier discharge of the firearm while still in the holster, the firearm had not cycled properly, and it malfunctioned. Officer Pittman was able to regain full control of his firearm, clear the malfunction, wound his assailant, and take him into custody. In officer Pittman’s own words, “My Safariland holster saved my life”.

We welcome Officer Zachary Pittman as SAVE #2247 to The Safariland Group Saves Club®.
