On January 22, 2025, Officer Dean Rosetta responded to a call of a suicidal male who had called the police on himself. As officers responded, the suspect ambushed and shot one of the officers with a pistol, before barricading himself in an apartment. Officer Dean Rosetta began maintaining containment while using a Safariland® Mighty Might X 3P shield for cover for himself and other officers when the suspect again opened fire, this time firing multiple times with a 12-gauge shotgun loaded with birdshot. The shotgun blast hit the Mighty Mite shield, as well as Officer Rosetta’s left leg, left shoulder, and left side of his face that were exposed around the shield. An extended standoff ensued, and the negotiations were unsuccessful as the suspect continued firing at officers, with a total of seven officers shot during the incident. SWAT officers returned fire, ending the threat. All seven officers received non-life-threatening injuries.
Officer Rosetta has recovered and returned to full duty.
