On July 3, 2025, Officer Jacob Decker of the Shorewood Police Department was responding to a call of a shooting when he was ambushed and fired upon by a suspect from an unknown location while he was still half a block from the scene of the original call. Ten to twelve 10mm rounds were fired at Officer Decker’s squad car, with 2 of those rounds striking his windshield and another round hitting the passenger door. The round that went through the driver’s side windshield struck Officer Decker’s Safariland® XT03 level II armor worn in an U1 Overt carrier in the upper left chest/shoulder area and was stopped.
It was discovered that the assailant had murdered another person earlier that evening. He was eventually involved in a pursuit and shootout where he was fatally wounded.
Officer Decker has returned to full duty.
We welcome Officer Jacob Decker as SAVE #2256 to The Safariland Group Saves Club®.
