On July 4, 2016, Officer Wayne Pavlischek responded to a report of a reckless driver who crashed his vehicle and ran into a home. As officers arrived and attempted to make contact, the driver opened fire with a shotgun from inside the house. Officers immediately set up a perimeter and began evacuating residents from the surrounding areas.
As Officer Pavlischek was moving to evacuate a home, he was shot in the stomach. After a brief standoff, the assailant exited the home and opened fire on officers who returned fire, fatally wounding him. Officer Pavlischek’s Second Chance® Summit™ SM01 level IIIA armor stopped the 12-gauge buckshot and he was taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.
