On September 11, 2015, Officer Felix Serpas and Officer Jeremy Keller of the California Highway Patrol, Baldwin Park office, conducted a traffic stop on a driver who was possibly under the influence. Unbeknownst to Officer Serpas, the suspect was waiting with a sawed-off shotgun. As Officer Serpas made contact with the driver, he saw the barrel of the firearm. He immediately attempted to move to cover, yet fell to the ground in doing so. The suspect then exited the vehicle with the shotgun and moved towards Officer Serpas.
Officer Keller opened fire and the suspect began to retreat. The suspect then opened fire on Officer Serpas, striking him in the hands, forearms, chest, face and throat. Though wounded, Officer Serpas stayed in the fight and returned fire along with Officer Keller. The suspect was hit four times and, after a pursuit, he was apprehended and taken into custody. Officer Serpas’ Second Chance® HP02 Level IIIA armor stopped the birdshot hits to his chest.
We welcome Officer Felix Serpas, SAVE #1959, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
