On October 22, 2011, Officer Michael Nguyen was engaged in a vehicle pursuit that turned into a foot chase. As the officers attempted to subdue the suspect with OC spray, the suspect produced a .45 ACP pistol from his waistband and fired at least six shots.
Two of those rounds hit Officer Nguyen’s torso and were stopped by his ABA® Xtreme® HP Level IIIA body armor. Four more rounds also hit Officer Nguyen off his armor – once each in the forearm, bicep, hip and thigh.
After an eleven-hour multi-agency manhunt, the assailant was eventually taken into custody. Officer Nguyen went through intensive physical therapy and after six months, he returned to full duty.
We welcome Officer Michael Nguyen, SAVE #1967, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
