BERETTA 94X PERFORMANCE: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

Beretta just dropped—and very quietly, I might add—a brand-new pistol. Like a legit new pistol—not an extension of the 92/M9 line. While the M9 and 92 series have seen decades of service in both military and law enforcement applications, in recent years Beretta has been offering more performance-based versions. Which is great; that’s something many companies do with legacy lines.

Well, Beretta decided to kick it up a notch. They just released the Beretta 94X Performance, a gun built with IPSC and USPSA in mind.

SPECS

Drawing from decades of experience, Beretta built a platform to deliver the precision, speed, and control needed by today’s IPSC and USPSA shooters.

The standard specs are as follows:

  • Model: 94X Performance
  • Action: SA/DA
  • Frame: Vertec Pro Frame
  • Caliber: 9×19
  • Capacity: 20
  • Sights: 1mm Red Fiber Optic Front Sight, Black Serrated Fully Adjustable Rear Sight
  • Optic Cut: RDO Slide-Cut
  • Magazines: N/A
  • Price: N/A

FEATURES

Beretta centered the design of the 94X Performance around its new Vertec Pro frame. It features an upswept beavertail and raised trigger undercut that allow for a higher, more natural grip. The result is improved recoil management and faster follow-up shots during high-volume strings.

The optics-ready slide receives significant updates as well, including aggressive front and rear serrations and an RDO cut positioned 3mm lower than previous designs. That lower mounting position improves height-over-bore while helping reduce the pistol’s balance.

At the heart of the gun is Beretta’s new Xtreme-S trigger system, delivering a short take-up, crisp break, and exceptionally fast reset while retaining the proven DA/SA operating system.

A cold-hammer-forged barrel with a reinforced steel formulation is designed for long service life, while a redesigned firing pin, extractor, and integrated elastomer buffer enhance reliability.

Additional features include reshaped palm-swell grip panels, refined safety levers, a fiber-optic front sight, a blacked-out rear sight, a reversible magazine release, a Graphite Grey finish, and flush-fit 20-round magazines, creating a competition pistol built to run hard and stay fast.

ZOOMING OUT

I’m surprised Beretta released a new performance gun given the various competition options already in the 92 lineup. That said, this seems pretty awesome. I’ve read elsewhere that the new mags will work in legacy 92 pistols, but the standard mags won’t work in this one. Regardless, this shows that Beretta is trying to inch into a market overrun with 2011-style pistols. This gives competitors another option.
