Smart technology isn’t new. Barrett introduced the BORS system nearly two decades ago. Since then, many others have added tech to optical systems, such as the new Vortex Relay, which pairs with your phone. We just haven’t seen it in red dots until now. The Sig Sauer XRAY5 takes everything we know about pistol-mounted red dots and flips it on its head.

Typically, to zero a red dot, users adjust screws on the top and left sides to move the aiming point left or right, or up or down. We often take this complex mechanical system for granted because we expect it to work all the time.
The XRAY5 forgoes that typical construction and uses what Sig calls “solid-state architecture” that removes all the moving parts. In its place, a 225-dot rigid matrix.

The SIG SAUER XRAY5 Advanced Red Dot Sight takes a different approach to pistol optics, replacing traditional mechanical adjustments with a solid-state 225-dot matrix. Rather than moving an emitter to establish zero, shooters digitally select individual pixels for windage and elevation adjustments, eliminating moving parts that can wear or drift.
Its patented Zero Distortion Optic (ZDO) system delivers a clear, distortion-free sight picture, while the fully enclosed, sealed, and argon-purged optical system protects the optic from the elements.
The XRAY5 brings surprising technology to the pistol slide. Digital Zero allows shooters to establish, save, and instantly recall multiple zero profiles through the XRAY5 App, while LightFight adaptive illumination automatically manages reticle brightness. MOTAC Motion Activated Illumination helps preserve battery life, and an integrated Round Counter tracks shots fired with a reset function.
A rugged 7075 Aluminum housing and Grade 5 Titanium top cover protect the optic, while a side-loading CR2032 battery provides a claimed 10,000-hour runtime. All of this technology is managed through the XRAY5 APP, which you can download from the Apple App Store or Google Play. In the app, users set and manage a digital zero, create and recall multiple zero profiles, and provide round-count data.
ZOOMING OUT
This tech is drawing significant interest in the LE community, especially as more and more officers are opting for optics on their duty pistols. The app component streamlines the zeroing portion, while the data tracker is a huge benefit (think a round tracker during an engagement).
