On May 27, 2017, Sergeant Evan Antley was riding with Officer Roy Drew when they attempted to stop a vehicle which was traveling 20MPH over the posted speed limit. The driver of the vehicle stopped on a dead-end street, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Both officers gave chase and after a few hundred yards, the suspect entered a wooded area and hid in a ditch.
Sgt. Antley spotted the suspect and ordered him to surrender. As he entered the woods, the suspect opened fire with a .40 S&W firearm. Although the suspect hit Sgt. Antley in the chest and Officer Drew in the knee, both officers returned fire and a gunfight ensued.
Sgt. Antley was then hit in the leg and the round continued up his thigh, breaking a bone in his pelvis. Both officers continued the gunfight and the suspect was fatally wounded.
Sgt. Antley’s Second Chance® MN01 Level II Armor stopped the round to his chest, and both officers were taken to the hospital where they were treated for the wounds to their legs and released for recovery.
We welcome Sgt. Evan R. Antley, SAVE #1984, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
