Olsen loaned his vest to an informant whose life would be threatened if he testified against three young adults arrested for murder. On January 19, 1974, at approximately 11:00 p.m., two males ambushed Olsen’s informant. Both fired one shot each, striking Olsen’s friend in the chest area. One .22 caliber bullet was removed from the vest in a mushroomed condition. This was recovered from an area directly in from of the heart. The second bullet glanced off the vest and was not recovered. Doctor’s could not find the penetration and only found a small area on his chest that was sore. Olsen stated, “It is obvious to me that without the use of his Second Chance® vest, he would be dead.”
We welcome Officer Douglas Olsen, SAVE #9, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
