On December 23, 1975, Officer Message confronted two suspected burglars. A few seconds later he was shot twice in the stomach with a .38. Message was wearing his six-month old Second Chance® vest and was not injured. A “routine save” except for one thing. During the hand-to-hand struggle Message was also stabbed repeatedly in the back. Again the vest saved him from injury.
