Officer Branding stopped a male suspect for questioning. While approaching the suspect, whose back was facing Branding, the suspect wheeled around and fired a .22 pistol at the officer. The shot hit Branding in his lower right chest area. The impact of the hit turned Branding and another shot hit his left shoulder blade area. Branding drew his service revolver and returned fire as the suspect fled. Both slugs were found embedded in Branding’s Second Chance® vest.
