The saying “the pen is mightier than the sword” proved true for Officer Alwyn Chitwood in September, 1977. While booking a suspect on carrying prohibited weapons, the suspect stabbed Chitwood with a ball-point pen four times in the hand and chest. His doctor noted that Chitwood sustained a puncture of the left arm and tenderness of the right chest. Due to the potential seriousness of any chest wound, Chitwood’s Second Chance® vest was instrumental in preventing more severe injury.
We welcome Officer Alwyn Chitwood, SAVE #98, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
