On the evening of October 6, 1977, Officer John Bender was assaulted by a suspect with an “Old Timer” knife. At the time of the assault, Bender was wearing his Second Chance® vest. Bender suffered 6 stab wounds, however, was saved from several knife thrusts to the chest and back. Bender is convinced it was his vest that saved his life.
