Bill Winder was the second NYC Transit officer given a “second chance” in 14 months. The first was a knife “save”. This time the assailant, when ordered to “freeze”, turned on the subway stairs and pulled the trigger on his .12ga. sawed-off shotgun. The blast had 58 pellets rip into Winder’s vest. Because of the angle of the shot, Winder received shoulder and facial injuries, but according to hospital authorities, the Second Chance® vest Winder was wearing absorbed two-thirds of the impact and it “certainly saved his life.”
We welcome Officer Bill Winder, SAVE #133, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
