Trooper Johnson and his partner responded to a neighbor’s concern about the possibility that an individual may be hurt. Upon arrival at the residence, the officered followed a trail of blood into the basement. They found the subject lying in an unconscious state. While his partner called for help, Johnson aroused the subject only to have the wounded man pull a double-barrel cap and ball pistol from his hip pocket and fire into the upper left torso of Johnson. Besides being treated for a hand wound at the hospital, the subject had some head lacerations treated. Due to his Second Chance® vest, Johnson received no injuries to his upper torso.
