If you think his injuries are bad, you should see what happened to the car he came out of. That’s the truth in the case of Officer Helms, who was involved in a multi-car crash on July 1, 1980. Responding to a back-up call, Helms was struck by a car, causing him to smash into the truck in front of him. Helms received gruesome face and arm injuries, but was saved from any chest injury due to his Second Chance® vest.
