Officer Powell noticed a suspicious character standing outside a local drugstore, as he was driving home from work. Powell radioed in the situation before following the subject into the store. As Powell ordered the subject to “assume the position” a .22 fell out of the waistband of the subject and Powell bent down to pick it up. Instead, the assailant grabbed Powell’s gun, pushed Powell to the floor, and pumped two .357 slugs into the officer. Powell’s Second Chance® vest caught and helped both projectiles.
