When Officer Thorn arrived on the scene of a domestic disturbance call he found a young man with a .22 rifle pointed at his own chin in an attempt to commit suicide. While the man’s brother tried to talk him out of shooting himself, Thorn maneuvered himself into a position to grab the firearm from the man. A struggle ensued and three shots rang out. Not until after the subject was subdued did Thorn notice a hole in his uniform shirt and a lead slug embedded in his concealable armor. The charge of aggravated assault and resisting arrest with a deadly weapon was changed to attempted capitol murder. Exhibit “H” in the shooter’s trial was “one Second Chance® brand bulletproof vest.”
We welcome Officer Steve Thorn, SAVE #341, to The Safariland Group SAVES CLUB®.
