A shoot-out at a local middle school ended with a 15-year-old critically injured and Officer Barrett suffering multiple bullet wounds. Responding to a suspicious person/burglary call, Barrett and his K-9 partner encountered a junior-sized ninja warrior armed with several weapons including tear gas, a steel throwing star and “chako” sticks. What Barrett didn’t plan on was the .22 the brave warrior pulled out of his black outfit. The youth opened fire about 25-feet from the officer. Six shots were fired and Barrett was hit four times ” one in each leg, one in a boot, and another into the chest area of his concealed Second Chance® vest. Back up officers returned fire wounding and capturing their fellow officer’s assailant.
