Officer Smith was standing beside his marked squad car directing traffic around the scene of a vehicle fire. A DUI in a pickup traveling about 60 MPH struck Smith, slamming him into the side mirror. The impact tore the mirror off the car smashing the passenger side window. Carle Hospital medical personnel confirm the wearing of his Second Chance® armor saved Smith from great injury.
