Officer Marthaler was involved in a serious car accident during a police pursuit in the early morning hours. The other vehicle did not have his headlights on. Marthaler suffered a pelvic fracture and some minor rib fractures. According to the attending physician, “in spite of his injuries, he has done very well.” He attributes a fair amount of his protection from the accident to the “Second Chance®” vest that he was wearing.
