Master Sergeant Perrone was involved in an ambush during Desert Storm operations and was hit by shraphnel from an anti-personnel device which detonated within a proximity of two meters. He was struck in the chest region and also the leg and foot. The vest he was wearing along with the vest of Staff Sergeant Michael Tillman who was also injured have been preserved in the Special Forces Museum at Ft Bragg, NC.
