Officer Taylor was chasing suspect on foot when the suspect turned and opened fire on the officer. He was hit in the left side and fell to the ground. He was shot again, this time in the right side. Without the protective of his vest, the shot on his left side would probably have been lethal due to the proximity to his heart.
