During a domestic altercation, the husband opened fired, hitting Sergeant. Fletcher with several rounds, one of which passed through his badge and lodged in his body armor. Sergeant Fletcher was also hit in the right forearm, twice in the left upper thigh, and in the right calf. The suspect fired a total of 73 shots at his family, neighbors and the officers. Sergeant Fletcher was dragged to safety by his fellow officer, Rik Klotzbach who was also shot during the incident.
