Chief Pantoja was pursuing a car being driven by burglary suspects at speeds up to 100 mph. The chase ended when the suspects wrecked their car, jumped out and ran from the scene. Chief Pantoja ran after them and was shot in the right hip and thigh. Almost immediately, he was shot again in the right forearm. Although Chief Pantoja didn’t realize it, he had also been shot in the upper right chest.
