Officer Herring was attacked by a pit bull during a confrontation with a parolee at large. Although the dog was pepper sprayed three different times, it continued to attack Officer Herring. Officer Herring was bitten in the lower rib cage area, arm and shoulder before the dog could be subdued. During the attack, Officer Herring’s uniform shirt and vest cover were punctured and ripped.
