New for CCW Handguns: Streamlight TLR-7 HL-X USB

— James MaybrickCADRE Dispatch

Opting for a subcompact handgun for concealed carry offers the advantage of a smaller footprint, making it easier to carry and conceal compared to larger models. One tradeoff is the sheer lack of surface area to install accessories. Some do not have a light rail at all while others have a shortened, non-universal rail to fit a correspondingly small light.

To address the issue, Streamlight has long provided the TLR-7 light just for subcompact handguns. New for 2024 is the TLR-7 HL-X Sub USB, Streamlight’s latest multifuel upgrade to its lineup.

The new Streamlight TLR-7 Sub USB weapon light allows for quick target identification without sacrificing the small footprint of compact handguns. Weighing only 2.5 ounces, it’s both impact-resistant and waterproof with an IPX7 rating. Despite its small size, it boasts a blinding 1,000 lumens and up to 10,000 candelas with a maximum beam range of 200 meters. But the standout feature of this light is the ability to use different refueling methods.

Multi-Fuel

“We have taken the popular TLR-7 X sub light to a new level with a high-lumen light that offers versatility based on operational needs and user preferences,” said Streamlight President and Chief Executive Officer Ray Sharrah.

“When using a Streamlight SL-B9 USB-C rechargeable battery pack, the TLR-7 HL-X sub USB will deliver an ultra-bright 1,000 lumens to maximize targeting capability in tactical situations. Users also can program the light to deliver 500 lumens when using the same USB rechargeable battery, or they can use a disposable lithium battery, depending on availability or user needs.”

The TLR-7 HL-X USB can use a CR123A lithium battery or a USB rechargeable battery pack, giving you additional options depending on how far from civilization you are. The former option gives you a maximum run time of 1.5 hours at 500 lumens.

The Streamlight Li-Ion rechargeable battery boasts up to 1,000 lumens, with the option to program the light to a lower intensity to increase operating life from 30 minutes to 1 hour.

The light is available with either high or low activation switches to conform to the profile of the pistol. One important note is that the TLR-7’s mounting system varies by pistol and the light comes in four different variations: one for Glcok 43/48 rails, one for the Sig P365 series, one for the Springfield Hellcat line, and one for short 1913 railed options like the Beretta Px4 Storm, H&K, Springfield, and S&W M&P subcompacts.
