The Bond Arms Cyclops Thumper: A Pocket .50 Cal

— James MaybrickCADRE Dispatch

Bond Arms has managed to drag the break-action derringer, a creature of the 19th century, into the 21st century with a host of handguns that are safer, stronger, and more versatile than the vest-pocket pistols of yesteryear.

Because the derringer lacks a moving slide or cylinder, it can be chambered in fairly potent cartridges relative to its size. The Bond Arms Cyclops in .44 Magnum and .45-70 take power per ounce to the extreme. The new Bond Arms Cyclops Thumper joins these models chambered in .50 Action Express.

The Bond Arms Cyclops, previously in .44 Magnum and .45-70 Gov’t, is now available as the Thumper in .50 Action Express. (Bond Arms)

The Bond Arms Cyclops Thumper is scarcely larger than the company’s main derringer line but is a single shot instead of a double-barreled handgun. The rounds offered in the line up are just that big. Otherwise, the Cyclops Thumper operates identically.

Features

It is an all-stainless steel handgun featuring a robust barrel lug and barrel latch that tips the action open for loading. Like other Bond derringers, it features a removable trigger guard and a lockable cross-bolt safety in addition to a rebounding exposed hammer for maximum drop safety. The Thumper has a fixed front ramp sight and a milled notch in the barrel hinge to use as a rear sight.

.50 AE

The Cyclops Thumper is chambered in the .50 Action Express cartridge, which is among the most powerful handgun cartridges on the market in such handguns as the Magnum Research Desert Eagle. It was developed for big game hunting but is also used with success in metallic silhouette matches.

To help the shooting experience and tame some of the recoil, the Cyclops Thumper comes equipped with over-molded B6 Resin grips and a longer 4.25-inch barrel. In addition, the Thumper’s barrel can be changed to a matching Cyclops barrel in another caliber, if you choose.

Whether you are looking for the best conversation piece, a range curiosity, or a last-ditch option for big game, check out the new Bond Arms Cyclops Thumper.

This new offering is available in either a matte stainless finish or a polished stainless finish and an included OWB leather holster. The standard matte model has an MSRP of $649, while the Satin Package retails for $847.
