The Return of the Taurus 650 .357 Magnum DAO

— James MaybrickCADRE Dispatch

The Taurus 650 is a double-action-only hammerless version of the firm’s venerable Model 605 five-shot .357 Magnum snubnose revolver. The model, sometimes called the Taurus CIA, was discontinued along with the Model 85 in .38 Special in favor of the 856 lines of six-shooters.

Now, the 650 is back, better than ever, and made in the USA.

“This is the ultimate expression of what my friend Darryl Bolke refers to as ‘the snubby lifestyle’,” said Caleb Giddings, Manager of Marketing, Taurus USA. “Some people want a simple, reliable DAO revolver they can carry every day, and this gun answers that need perfectly.”

Features

The snag-free double-action only snubbie remains an excellent option for concealed carry or as a backup gun. Taurus is back in the BUG market with the relaunched 650. It is built on Taurus’ small frame, similar to a S&W J-frame, and has a five-round swing out cylinder. It has a shrouded hammer and can only be fired by a long pull of the trigger.

Unlike other snubbies on the market, the 650 has a heavier and more durable stainless steel frame that is finished in either a black cerakote or left matte stainless. The steel frame also helps to cut down on recoil whether you choose to shoot full house .357 Magnum ammunition or less powerful .38 Special rounds.

The revolver ships wearing a pair of Taurus’s hard rubber boot grips. It comes with a traditional square notch rear sight and a removeable pinned front ramp that can be and replaced with tritium or fiber optic options.

The new 650 has a fully underlugged barrel and is available with either a 2 or 3 inch barrel. The Taurus 650 models are compatible with the long line of speed loaders and holsters available for the Smith & Wesson J-frame.

The new 650 is now shipping with an MSRP starting at $454.99.
