The Taurus Judge Upgraded: CADRE NEWS

Cory Ross

The Taurus Judge is now 20 years old. If that makes your head hurt and your joints ache, get in line. It’s hard to believe the Judge has been around long enough to be nearly of drinking age.

Since its release, the Judge has been one of Taurus’s powerhouse product lines, with upteen unique models. Why is it so popular? Because it’s something different, and it fills a hole in the market. There’s something very useful about a revolver that can fire .45 Colt and .410 shotgun shells. And if you don’t consider it useful, it sure is fun.

For its 20th birthday, Taurus has upgraded the Judge to meet today’s shooters’ demands.

FEATURES

The Taurus Judge returns in a refreshed form, marking two decades since the revolver first reshaped its category. Twenty years after its introduction, the platform that became one of the industry’s most recognizable revolvers is back with updated features.

This reflects a deliberate refinement rather than reinvention—meaning it’s not new, just a little different. Staying true to the DNA that made the Judge iconic, the updated model preserves its core identity of versatility, performance, and unmistakable Taurus innovation while introducing subtle enhancements for modern use.

These features and updates include upgraded sights, hammer, a redesigned grip, a reshaped trigger, an updated cylinder release, and an overall refreshed look. The first models will be available with 3” or 6.5” barrels in black or duo-tone. These models will accept 2.5” .410 shells, with magnum 3” models on the horizon.

ZOOMING OUT

Two decades later (which feels like a lifetime), the Judge remains an industry leader, carrying forward the same spirit that made it a legend. It remains a familiar name among shooters who value performance and versatility. It’s good to see Taurus update its most recognizable lines. I’m excited to see what they do next with it.
