ONTARIO, California – Safariland® congratulates Team Safariland member Dave Ruby for placing fourth in the 50+ division at the 2014 Xterra World Championship. Ruby competed using a race version of the Safariland/Kona® Patrol Bike during this competitive triathlon and had one of the fastest bike splits, which allowed him to place on the podium. Held in Kapalua, Hawaii, the race brought in 800 qualified racers, both professional and amateur, from all over the world, and was the last race in a series of more than 100 off-road triathlons held in 25 countries and 37 U.S. states.
Ruby rode through the 18.8 mile loop terrain on his race version of the popular Safariland/Kona 29er. With the same structure and geometrics as the 29er, this version was built with a race-ready carbon fiber frame. “As part of the product testing team for the Safariland Patrol Bike brand, I am constantly testing and pushing bikes to the limit,” said Ruby. “The Xterra World Championship was a great venue to test the bike’s performance since it is one of the most extreme bike courses out there. Based on my race time, the bike was outstanding!”
“Dave performed very well at the Xterra Championship; it is one of the toughest triathlons out there with a rugged bike course. Dave’s product-testing in races such as these provides invaluable insight on the performance and comfort of Safariland products,” said Scott Carnahan, VP of Equipment Product Marketing. “If the Safariland Patrol Bike can survive a course like this, it can surely survive the rigors of daily patrol.”
The Safariland/Kona 29er Patrol Bike includes a shadow derailleur which tucks in more, helping to protect the drivetrain. It is constructed of durable Kona Race Light 7005 aluminum and features hydraulic disc brakes for excellent stopping power.
