Team Safariland Members Doug Koenig and Rob Leatham Win at 2017 Bianchi Cup Championship

Koenig collects 18th NRA Bianchi Cup championship; Leatham earns 11th Production championship trophy

ONTARIO, California – Safariland®, a brand of The Safariland Group, celebrates Team Safariland members Doug Koenig and Rob Leatham for their wins at the 2017 NRA Bianchi Cup, May 24-27, at the Green Valley Rifle & Pistol Club in Hallsville, Mo. Koenig placed ahead of 188 competitors, with a winning score of 1920-184X to win his 18th NRA Bianchi Cup championship. His first title win came in 1990, when he was the first competitor since the inception of the match to shoot a perfect score. Leatham was the “Production National Champion,” with a winning score of 1908, 21 points ahead of the next Production Division contender. This is Leatham’s 11th NRA Bianchi National Championship trophy, with his last Production win in 2014.

“Doug and Rob are stellar examples of commitment and perseverance,” said Scott Carnahan, vice president of the equipment category at Safariland. “Their accomplishments are unmatched and we could not be prouder to have them as part of Team Safariland.”

Established in 1979, The Bianchi Cup is a destination for the world’s most respected and accomplished competitors, attracting the best practical competitive shooters and military/police competitors from around the world. It tests each shooter’s skill competency in speed, accuracy and precision over four courses, including practical, barricade, falling plates and moving target.

“Despite a malfunction on the mover in the qualifying round, I was lucky enough to clear it and get the last shot off in the string,” said Koenig. “After winning my 18th Bianchi Cup, it proves that you have to start with the most reliable equipment. I am fortunate to use Safariland gear in all of my championships.”

“I shot personal bests in both the preliminary and qualifying rounds,” noted Leatham. “Cleaning the plates in both events was a satisfying, personal performance after struggling with that event for the last few years.” I am thankful that my durable and consistent Safariland gear always helps me perform to the best of my ability.”

Koenig competed in the Bianchi Cup Championship with the Safariland Model 014 Open Class Competition Holster, ELS Belt and Model 776 Competition Magnetic Mag Holder. Leatham competed with the Safariland ELS system, Model 5188 Holster and USPSA Kit. Next up for Koenig and Leatham is the Safariland Expedition in Boulder City, Nevada June 22-25, 2017 at the Pro Gun Club.
