On August 6, 2021, an officer was attempting to arrest a violent suspect. As the suspect resisted, the officer’s taser was deployed, but it was ineffective. During the struggle, the suspect gained control of the service weapon and fired 3 rounds. One round grazed the officer in the head, one round impacted the Safariland® XT03 Level II armor, and the third round was a miss. Moments later, the officer was thankfully able to move to a position of cover. The suspect was arrested by the backup unit after another struggle and is currently pending trial. The officer was hospitalized for the off armor shot, and was later released to return home. Thankfully, the Safariland® armor stopped the 9mm
JHP round from inflicting any injury.
