On December 18, 2025, Deputy Taylor Lucas was involved in a vehicle pursuit that transitioned into a brief foot chase. During the attempt to apprehend the suspect, the suspect turned and fired a .40 S&W semiautomatic firearm at Deputy Lucas. Deputy Lucas was struck once in the chest; however, his GH Armor Ethos IIIA ballistic vest, worn in an APB.UM Uniform MOLLE external carrier, successfully stopped the round.
Deputy Lucas and an assisting deputy returned fire, wounding the suspect and taking him into custody. Both Deputy Lucas and the suspect were transported to the hospital for treatment. The suspect has been charged with multiple felony offenses, including attempted murder.
Deputy Lucas was treated and released and has since returned to full duty.
