On December 24th, 2020, Officers from the Tampa Police Department responded to a disturbance call with a barricaded suspect. After several hours of negotiations, they heard a gunshot inside the room. Believing the suspect may have shot himself and was in need of aid the officers approached the room behind a PROTECH® Entry 1 FX R Shield. Detective James Wolff was the shield operator and as he got close, the suspect opened fire through the door and window at the officers. One of the 9mm rounds struck the viewport of the PROTECH® Shield and was stopped. The officers moved back to a protected area and a prolonged SWAT operation ensued with the team exchanging gunfire with the suspect. The suspect eventually surrendered and has been charged with multiple felonies. Detective Wolff was unharmed behind the protection of the PROTECH® Entry 1 FX R Shield.
